ROCKLAND — The Knox County College Transitions course, COL 100-Introduction to College Experience, is now approved by University of Maine at Augusta for college credit.

This three-credit course is one section of the College Next program that runs Wednesdays for 12 weeks each semester. In College Next, students have skill-building sections of English and mathematics in the morning, followed by COL 100-Introduction to College Experience in the afternoon. Beginning this fall, students who earn a "C" or better in the COL 100 section may have three credits posted to their UMA transcript. This is an opportunity to earn college credits while preparing to be a successful college student, all at the same time.

College Next and the accreditation of COL 100- Introduction to College Experience represents a collaboration between Knox County Adult Education programs, University College at Rockland, and University of Maine at Augusta. Adult Education instructors are responsible for the planning and delivery of the course, University College at Rockland provides classrooms and support services, and UMA offers the process and oversight for accreditation. The beneficiaries of this coordinated effort are the local students who, for $90, can begin their pathway to college.

College Next is currently registering students for the course beginning Sept. 23. Class size is limited to 15 students. Interested learners may contact Knox County College Transitions Coordinator, Peg Junge at 691-5751 or pjunge@rsu13.org.
