ROCKLAND — Kevin Fredrick Young, 67, passed away Oct. 5, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is joined on his journey by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ellen Young, who passed away earlier this year in March.

Born in Rockland on Feb. 23, 1948, he was the middle son of Fredrick and Eleanor Young. He attended most of his schooling in Warren, and married the love of his life on Dec. 3, 1966.

Kevin is most remembered for his commitment to his marriage, family, dedication to work, and passion for performing and singing music, a trait his children and grandchildren continue to carry on in his footsteps. He was a musician in multiple band projects, an organist for years at the Rockland Elks Lodge #1008, and recruited to provide entertainment, along with his wife, at hundreds of family gatherings and nonprofit events.

Kevin began a lifelong career with Fisher Engineering in 1969, which eventually led to residing and working for its parent company in Johnson City, Tenn., for 18 years.

Some of Kevin's personal accomplishments included learning Spanish, mastering the organ, and conquering his dream of riding and owning a motorcycle. His sense of humor was bridled by his wife, and the two of them were well loved by many friends throughout his life and known for their compatibility and love.

Along with his wife, Kevin celebrated the welcoming of all his grandchildren: Courtney, Benjamin, Jacob, Kade, Shannon, Jonas, Mary Ellen, Gaven, Kevin, and Farren Lee as well as the addition of his step-grandchildren: Tricia, Courtney, Lena and Cindy.

Other than his parents, Kevin was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ellen Young; his brother-in-law, Larry Gamage; and his sister-in-law, Linda Marr. He is survived by his two brothers and their wives, Craig and Polly Young, and Eric and Trisha Young; his five children, Annette Young, Charlene Walsh and her husband, Joseph, Mary Bergey, Michael Young, and Laura Perkins and her husband, Vinson; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Bernice and Richard Gleason, Lorraine and John Falla, and Leatrice and Jeff Falla; and his brother-in-law, John Marr Sr. Kevin was part of a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 150 Broadway in Rockland, followed by a graveside committal service at Sawyer Cemetery in Warren. Friends and families are welcome to join the family for refreshments at the Odd Fellows Hall immediately following the services.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
