LINCOLNVILLE — John W. Ianelli, of Lincolnville, was born July 20, 1954. He died peacefully on Sept. 8, 2016, of complications from a stroke, with his family and friends by his side at the Portland Medical Center. He was son of John and Helen Ianelli of Plattsburgh, N.Y.

His kindness, laughter, intellect, creativity, generous spirit and smile will be missed deeply by all who knew him. He loved music and played the dobro and guitar with several bands and friends from Austin, Texas, to Belfast, Maine. He moved to Maine nearly 30 years ago to work at Moss Tents and fell in love with the state that became his home. He served as chair and faculty for the Digital Graphics, Design and Fine Arts Department at Eastern Maine Community College. He received his Master of Fine Arts from SUNY Albany.

He is survived by three children, two daughters, Anna-Kate Priputen (Nate) and Ruby Ianelli, and a son, Ryland Ianelli; two sisters, Cathy Johnston (Wayne) and Joanne Kelly (Lee); and two brothers, Joe Ianelli (Carolyn) and Jim Ianelli (Jeanne); two grandchildren, Eleanor and Avery Priputen; a stepdaughter, Alex Smith; his partner, Lisa Tuttle; and three nieces and six nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his parents.

Services to celebrate John's life will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Camden Library Amphitheater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to a charity of your choice.
