John Jackson, obituary

John Mitchell Jackson, 84, formally of Camden, died peacefully Saturday, July 25, at the Kaplan Family House Hospice in Danvers, Mass., following a short illness.

Born in New York City June 3, 1931, he was the son of Harold M. Jackson and Frederica E. Jackson.

John grew up in Marblehead, Mass., and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1949. He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.

He was employed with the Naumkeag Bank in Salem, Mass., through the 1970s and later moved to Camden. In Maine, he was employed by the Camden Herald and later as a case worker for the Maine State Prison system.

He was actively involved with the Owls Head Transportation Museum and worked with special need adults at the Coastal Opportunities.

John was interested in American history and gardening. His wit and sense of humor will be missed.

He leaves behind a twin brother, David P. Jackson, of Rockport, and two sons, Peter H. Jackson, of Gloucester, Mass., and Lincoln D. Jackson, of Peabody, Mass., as well as his grandchildren Heather D. Jackson, of Peabody, Nicholas H. Jackson, of Brooklyn N.Y., and Steven Jackson of Reading, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son David P. Jackson, of Marblehead. There will be a memorial service for him at a later date.
