RICHMOND — John H. Dailey, 72, died unexpectedly Oct. 27, 2015, at Maine General Hospital in Augusta.

Born in Rockland on March 7, 1943, he was the son of Vinal and Alma Knutt Dailey. He was raised in Rockland and graduated from Rockland High School in 1961.

After high school he married and raised a family. John worked in the auto industry in parts management. Outside of work he enjoyed weekends at the family get-a-way at Ash Point. He had a love of the sea, enjoyed diving for scallops and was a member of the Rockland Blue Fin Diving Club. He was involved many years with the Sea Scout program in Rockland. He loved sailing, model rockets, remote control planes, boats and more recently a drone.

On Oct. 24, 1992, John married Mary Louise Thomas, originally from Exton, Pa. They were married at the Dresden-Richmond United Methodist Church. Starting with a honeymoon in Tobago and Trinidad, they spent much time traveling, including the Caribbean and Tahiti, and richly traveled hundreds of miles through Pennsylvania, upstate New York and Quebec.

During these years John worked at Crowe Rope in Warren as the quality assurance manager and in semi-retirement, continued to work at Advanced Industrial Solutions in Augusta.

John continued his love of sailing the Penobscot Bay on his boat, Dailey Planet, and eventually gave a go at a cabin cruiser power boat, The Sea Venture. John was also very proud to have achieved an Extra Class Ham Radio Operators license. He also enjoyed the company of his Siamese cat, Douie.

Predeceased by his parents, Vinal and Alma Dailey; John is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Dailey of Richmond; his daughter, Lisa Dailey of Rockland; and his son, Dave Dailey of South Thomaston.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. Private interment will be at a later date in Glen Cove Cemetery in Rockport.
