Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice, Minnesota, for John "Charlie" H. Kjer, age 60, who passed away Wednesday at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls, Minnesota. Rev. David Edge will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids, MN.

John "Charlie" Howard Kjer was born November 18, 1956 in Tacoma, Washington, to John & Nila (Wilson) Kjer. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force, and worked on Air Force One with President Ford. Charlie worked as a guard at the Knox County Prison in Rockland. He lived in Maine for 20 years prior to coming back to Rice in 2014. Charlie enjoyed watching the Vikings and Twins, hunting and fishing. He was quiet, had a good sense of humor, and was proud of his work at the prison and his military service.

Survivors include his sisters and brother, Debra (Larry) Sexton of Halethorpe, MD, Duane (Julie) Kjer of Greenville, TX, Janet (Kevin) Maleska of Rice, MN and Linda Bicondoa of St. Cloud, MN; and nieces and nephews, Chris, Michael, Nicole, Amanda, Jenny, Adam, Candice, Joe and Amber. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A special thank you to St. Otto's Care Center and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate loving care given to Charlie.
