SOUTH THOMASTON — John Sheridan Chamblin 91, passed away peacefully April 14, 2016, at home.

He was born Aug. 1, 1924, in San Diego, Calif., the son of John Richard and Margaret Woods Chamblin.

He played clarinet in the Bonham Brothers Band of Greater San Diego, including appearingin the Rose Bowl Parade on Jan. 1, 1940. He also played his clarinet and saxophone in a dance band in high school. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1943; joined the Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1945.

He started his career as a tool and die maker with Convair Aeronautics in San Diego. He transitioned into cost estimating and finally into contract negotiating, moving his family to Virginia when his employer changed to the U.S. Government. Following his retirement in 1986, he and his wife, Priscilla, moved to Rockport. They lived for a while in St. George, then spent a few years in Florida, before moving to South Thomaston, back in his beloved state of Maine.

His hobbies included camping, house renovations, woodworking, and volunteering as a fire policeman.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; his daughters, Karen Chamblin Walker of Cocoa, Fla., and Sherry Chamblin Pearson of St George; two grandchildren in Texas and Oklahoma; and three great-grandchildren in Texas.

He will be interred at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. A memorial service will be held in May at West Rockport Baptist Church.
