ROCKLAND - Janette Sulides died peacefully on December 6, 2017 at the age of 86. The daughter of Philip and Efthimia Sulides, Janette was born and raised in Rockland. She was a graduate of Rockland High School and Gorham State Teachers College. Janette was the loving sister of her brothers John, Peter and Paul Sulides, who predeceased her, and her surviving sisters, Ellen Sulides, Sylvia Soule and Elizabeth Rich.

After pursuing her professional career far from Rockland, Janette returned to the place she loved most, the coast of Maine, where she could pursue her intellectual and artistic interests while enjoying and helping her family. She carried on her father's tradition of growing spectacular vegetable gardens and her mother's for excellent cooking, for which the entire family was grateful.

She shared her love and appreciation of classical music with her younger sisters and inspired them to make it a meaningful part of their lives. Her family and friends also appreciated her talent for creating beautiful handcrafted gifts. Janette was also an avid reader of history and classic literature and was fully engaged in understanding and exploring current cultural movements and politics. She had an enduring interest in her family's Albanian heritage, including its language and cuisine. She helped several Albanian immigrants adapt to life in Rockland.

Janette will be remembered for her devotion to her parents as they aged, for her unselfish care for her brother Peter in his final years, the companionship she gave her sisters and the very special relationships she developed with her many nieces and nephews. She truly enriched their lives with her love and attention. She will be sadly missed by her loving sisters, her brothers-in- law, Walter Soule and Nathan Rich, their children and grandchildren and the family of her dear brother Peter.
