TENANTS HARBOR — Acadia, a framed original watercolor by Robert Steinmetz, will be one of the silent art auction highlights at the Jackson Memorial Library Book Fair fundraiser on Saturday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Tenants Harbor.

After 27 years as a practicing architect in Connecticut, Steinmetz began painting watercolors when he retired and moved to the coast of Maine in 1990. He was chosen recently by his artist peers for "Signature Membership" status in America's two most prestigious watercolor societies: The American Watercolor Society in New York and the National Watercolor Society in California. His work is regularly chosen by jurors for inclusion in international and national watercolor exhibitions, and it has been cited for numerous awards as well.

All artwork for the auction is displayed at Jackson Memorial Library, on Main Street in Tenants Harbor. Bidding is now under way and continues until 2 p.m. on July 16. Bidders are not required to be present to win.

Many local artists have contributed pieces to the art auction and to the art raffle. Included in both are paintings, sculpture, pottery, furniture, prints and fine photography. Artists who have contributed thus far are Joe Holub, Lydia Kaeyer, Lauren Gill, Betsy Johnson, Charlene Vanderslice, Lawrence Murphy, Kathleen Fox, John Rasmussen, Jen Mumford, Mimo Gordon Riley, Ed Botkin, Geoff Bladon, Carmella Yager, Bjorn Runquist, Ann Hritz, Fred Carey, Darlene Cocke, Don Moore, Jessica Dubin, Baxter Smith and Jen Derbyshire.

In addition to art and craft pieces in the raffle, gift certificates and baskets have been donated by local merchants and friends of the library. Raffle tickets are now on sale at the library. Raffle drawings will begin at noon on book fair day. Winners need not be present to win.

There will be also thousands of sorted books, home-baked goods and a children's corner available for perusing.
