Ivan Rawley, obituary

ROCKLAND — Ivan C. Rawley, 72, died peacefully Jan. 28, 2015, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Born Oct. 14, 1942, he was the son of Alfred and Frances Rawley. Growing up in Waldoboro and Warren, Ivan attended local schools.

Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1961, he was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1964. In 1963 Ivan married Sharon Proctor. Together they resided in Rockland their entire married life.

Always interested in cars and engines, Ivan spent his career as a mechanic. For over 20 years he was employed as such for Dragon Cement. Following his retirement, he remained active in the automotive industry, delivering parts for the local Napa Auto Parts store.

He loved being outdoors and often took fishing trips to the local lakes. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his father and his wife; Ivan is survived by his children, Janet Ward, Julie Hanscom and her husband, Steven, of Otisfield, and Jerel 'Jerry' Rawley and his wife, Octavia, of Rockland; his brothers, Raymond Rawley, Richard Rawley and David Rawley; a sister, Florence Rawley; his step-mother, Dorothy Rawley of Waldoboro; six grandchildren, Charles, Nicki, Scott, Robbie, Jacob and Holden; as well as two great-grandchildren, Dominic and London.

Family and friends are invited to visit Monday, Feb. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland, where a celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. Ivan's nephew, the Rev. Tom Rawley, will officiate. Interment will take place at Achorn Cemetery in the spring.
