TENANTS HARBOR — Hilda C. Wiley, 89, died peacefully on May 13, 2016, at Sussman House in Rockport, following a brief hospitalization.

Born in St. George on Sept. 19, 1926, she was the youngest of 11 children born to Alba and Alvira Hyyppa Korpinen. Educated locally, Hilda was a 1945 graduate of St. George High School.

Hilda married Malcolm Wiley in St. George in April of 1948. Together they made their home in St. George their entire married life.
She was employed with Port Clyde Packing Company, both in Port Clyde and when the company moved to Rockland. Her life was spent as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was avid reader in her young years. Her family remembers her as an excellent cook. She has contributed countless hours and items to local bake-sales, helping the community. She was known for her Finnish Nissua bread, even enlisting the help of her husband to grind the cardamom seeds.

Hilda was an active member of the Finnish Congregational Church in South Thomaston, the FinAm Society and the Finnish Heritage House. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. George Historical Society and the Rebekahs.
She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

Predeceased by her siblings, Ina Peterson, Una Korpinen, Lillian Glad, Victor Korpinen, Reino Korpinen, Jennie Korpinen, Niilo Korpinen, Wilho Korpinen and Sylvia (Knight) Caven; and a son, Bruce Wiley; Hilda is survived by her beloved husband, with whom she just celebrated 68 years of marriage, Malcolm Wiley of Tenants Harbor; her son, Dale Wiley and his wife, Marianne, of Tenants Harbor; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Perkins-Wiley of Manchester, N.H.; six grandchildren, Sarah Wiley of Augusta, Joel Wiley of Mechanic Falls, Benjamin Wiley of Boston, Mass., Malcolm Wiley of Nederland, Colo., and Emma Wiley and Zak Wiley, both of Manchester, N.H.; as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit Wednesday, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at the Finnish Congregational Church, 172 St. George Road (Route 131) in South Thomaston. The Rev. Terence Willis will officiate. Interment will be held Friday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at Seaside Cemetery in Tenants Harbor.
