CAMDEN — Henry Lyman Bryant, 92, passed away Feb. 23, 2015, after a brief illness at Quarry Hill.

Born in Brockton, Mass., on Dec. 16, 1922, he was the son of Waldo R. and Lillian Bearce Bryant.

After graduating from Manlius School in Manlius, N.Y., in 1941, he attended Boston University.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a combat infantry leader with the 38th INF, 2nd INF Division, 1944 -1945 in Europe. He participated in the major battles from Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge, and conclusion of the war.

For his valor he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Army Reserve Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and Presidential Unit Citation with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He was active in the Army Reserve and retired with the rank of major.

Following the war, he moved with his family to Tenants Harbor, where he served as postmaster for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983. Long active in his community, Mr. Bryant was a past member and officer of the Jackson Memorial Library and Seaside Cemetery Association. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, he served three terms as a selectman with the town of St. George. He was a member of the original Town Manager Committee and Elementary School Building Committee. A longtime member of Eureka Lodge of Masons and a past patron of Naomi Chapter #25 OES, he was also a member of American Legion Post #34.

Mr. Bryant enjoyed being with his family and being outdoors, and was an avid boating enthusiast.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Virginia M. Bryant, on March 27, 2008. He is survived by a son, Jeffery Bryant of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; four daughters, Janice Samson and her husband, Roger, of Camden, Jennifer Roberts and her husband, Warren, of Deming, N.M., Jill Hupper and her husband, Craig, of Tenants Harbor, and Jocelyn Hallowell of Rockport; four grandchildren, Bradford Samson and his wife, Anne, of Portland, Joshua Hupper of Tenants Harbor, Jessica Gale and her husband, Matthew, of Gray, and Adam Hallowell of Rockport; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Marie Hupper of Tenants Harbor; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Olivia B. Frantz in 1972.
