BROOKS — Helena Rose Cunningham, 65, of Brooks, died unexpectedly Nov. 14, 2015. She was born Aug. 12, 1950, in Belfast, daughter of Clarence and Helen Cook. After a very short battle with cancer she passed quietly at home surrounded by her mother, sisters and son.

She was employed as a certified nursing assistant for Tall Pines Health Care for many years and then continued her career as a nurse at Waldo County General Hospital and Waldo County Home Health Care. She was a very dedicated and loving nurse who was cherished by the many she cared for as well as her co-workers. She enjoyed camping, barbecues and spending quality time with her family. Her ultimate joy was shopping for the kids. She loved to attend all of their school functions and sporting events. From football, basketball, baseball, gymnastics and ballet, to their school plays.

She is survived by her mother, Helen Cook; and her son, Jamie Cunningham, both of Brooks; her sisters, Sirena and Jim Bennett of Brooks and Rowena and Ed Nealley of Winterport; her nephews, Michael Nealley, and Zack, Jeremy, James and Alex Bennett; her great-nieces and nephew, Mykale, Mykenna, Gracelynne, Morgan, Zoey and Iven (she was “Aunt Nena” to them all); her in-laws, Jeffrey, Andy and Jr. Cunningham of Winterport, and Vicki Brown and Diana Moore of Frankfort; and her many nephews and nieces from the Cunningham side (she was “Aunt Weezie” to them). She will be so greatly missed by us all. The shock and speed of her departure will forever be with us.

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Ronald Cunningham; her son, Jason Cunningham; and her father, Clarence Cook.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. at Kenney Cemetery on Reynolds Road in Brooks.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
