PORT CLYDE — Harriet Naumer Dennen, 89, formerly of Wellesley Hills, Mass., died peacefully in her sleep on March 30, 2017, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 29, 1927, she was the daughter of Dr. Harry and Anna Risch Naumer.

She was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Packer Collegiate Institute. She also graduated from Centenary Junior College in Hackettstown, N. J., and while there participated in every sport available, softball, basketball, volleyball, field hockey and tennis.

A lifetime summer resident of Port Clyde, she met her husband, William E. Dennen of Tenants Harbor, and they were married June 25, 1949, in Brooklyn. They raised a family in Wellesley Hills, Mass., and moved to Port Clyde in 1985. They were married 47 years until William passed away in 1996.

Hattie, as she was known by her friends, was a longtime PTA Member and Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed sailing and boating on the waters around Port Clyde, gardening and her many pet dogs over the years. Remarkably, Hattie maintained a lobster recreational license well into her 70s and enjoyed taking her grandchildren out lobstering while hauling her traps by hand.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert E. of Yarmouth Port, Mass., John E. of Thomaston, and Matthew E. of Northport. She is also survived by four grandsons and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Dorothy N. Brown, who died in 2016.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at Ridge Church Cemetery on Ridge Road in Martinsville, St. George.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. George Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Association, P. O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860-0249.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
