BANGOR — Harold Edward "Bud" McGowan, 53, died March 6, 2014, due to an illness. He was born Aug. 1, 1960, in Camden, the son of Horace and Theresa (McDonald) McGowan.

Harold graduated from Camden Rockport High School, Class of 1979, and studied music at the University of Maine. He enjoyed music, gardening, cooking and water sports; kayaking and floating. He wanted people to laugh and loved his music, especially playing guitar with his brother, Bob.

He lived an unconventional life and was a friend to all, enemy to none. His nickname, “Buddy,” said it all. He was confusing, confounding and gave unconditional love always. 100 percent Buddy, who always wanted to be of service to help. The family thanks Cedric, Jeff, Fitzy, Julie, and all of his friends at Alcoholics Anonymous.

Harold was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, William and Timothy; and a sister, Angela. He is survived by his brothers, John McGowan, Robert McGowan and Peter McGowan; his sisters, Roseanne Upton, Joanne Poland, Mary McGowan, Patricia McGowan, Lynda Larner and Katie Devries; his brothers-in-law and sisters in-law; aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. in Bangor, where relatives and friends may call from noon until the time of service. Interment will be later in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden.

Those who wish to remember Harold in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Manna Ministries, 629 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401.
