ROCKPORT — Gregory Paul Eaton, 60, died April 8, 2016, after a brief illness at Maine Medical Center in Portland, surrounded by his family. Gregory was born July 31, 1955, in Rockland.

He was a 1974 graduate of Camden-Rockport High School. Greg worked as a property manager at the Thompson Community Center in Union, and dedicated himself to his family and friends. He was a long time resident of Rockport and shared a home with his life partner, Penny Hoppe.

A unique soul, Greg was very loving, funny and honest. He enjoyed playing music and helping friends and family with repairs and advice. If not enjoying the company of friends he would always find a way to an old fishing spot on Seven Tree Pond, or a TV with the race on in the background. You could always find Greg deep in conversation at the local auto parts store or market for a quick laugh. Greg will be greatly missed by all that knew him and loved him.

Gregory is predeceased by his grandparents, Theodore and Marion Eaton and Luther and Alice Glidden; and his aunts, Polly Nichols and Joyce Jameson. He is survived by his parents, Milton and Elinor Eaton of Rockland; his son, Jesse Eaton and his wife, Erica, of Midlothian, Va.; his daughter, Heidi Taylor and her husband, David, of Appleton; three sisters and their husbands, Sandra and Chuck Lachance of Cushing, Tamra and Larry Hooper of Lincolnville, and Pamela and Rick Gushee of Appleton; Penny's daughters, Heather McAtee and her husband, Wayne, of Lincolnville, and Sara Boody and her husband, Brian, of Unity; his grandchildren, Dylan and Hannah Taylor, Caleb and Carson Whitney, Owen McAtee, Natasha Curit and Madison Bisson; a new great-granddaughter, Caroline Taylor, as well as his nephews, Jim Hall and Christopher Hooper; and his nieces, Jennifer Verrecchia and Katie Hooper.

A graveside service will be held Friday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at New Rockville Cemetery on Route 17 in Rockport, with a reception following at Thompson Community Center, 51 South Union Road in Union. All are welcome who would like to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pope Memorial Animal Shelter of Knox County, P.O. Box 194, Rockland, ME 04841, or to the animal shelter of your choice.
