BROOKS - Grace Beman King of Brooks was born in July 1925 and passed away Aug. 27, 2016, where she was residing at Harbor Hill, at 92 years of age. She was born and raised on a dairy and tobacco farm in Granby, Conn., with her parents, Joseph Beman and Alida Griffin Beman. She lived at home with her brother, Merrill, until she went to nursing school in her 20s.

Grace married Delizon King in 1950 and raised a family in Westfield, Mass. Delizon was a veteran and military hero of World War II, an American Legion commander and his occupation was as a house mover. Together for more than 18 years they shared many adventures. While married and raising a family, Grace worked as a registered nurse at Noble Hospital for over 30 years.

She had many hobbies and was a master gardener, master knitter and seamstress, as well as a cross-stitch artist. She also loved to read and soak up the sun.

She raised extensive flower gardens and created many beautiful gardens, generously knit sweaters and cross-stitched works of art over the years; sharing her expertise at gardening and other arts with her family during her lifetime. In her middle age years, Grace loved to take summer vacations with her best friend, Mary Ackerman, to the fishing village of Gloucester, Mass.

Grace leaves behind three sons and four beloved grandchildren in Brooks, Maine, and Westfield, Mass. She spent time with her son’s families during different periods of her life, helping to raise and care for the grandchildren, spending summers and fall in Maine and winters and spring in Massachusetts. She loved to hike and go on picnic adventures with her Maine family well into her 70s and spent much time in the outdoors soaking up the sun.

Grace will be sorely missed by her Maine family, including her son, Donald; her daughter in-law, Deborah and her grandchildren, Jonathan and Abbey. Her Massachusetts family still living includes Robert and William King and their partners; and her grandchildren, Sarah and Gina King. She made many friends at Harbor Hill and was well cared for.

She had a life well lived and loved. Grace's ashes will be interred in her family's gardens. Memorial services will be held privately.

Donations in her name can be offered to Stanley Park, 400 Western Ave, Westfield, MA 01085 where she loved to spend time strolling in the gardens.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
