Glendora Ward, obituary

ROCKPORT — Glendora F. Ward, 96, died peacefully Dec. 12, 2014, at Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath, where she had been a resident only one week.

Born in Jackson on April 29, 1918, she was the daughter of Levi R. and Florence Crosby Stevens. She was a 1936 graduate of Morse Memorial High School in Brooks, and in 1939 earned teachers certification from Eastern State Teachers College in Castine.

In June of 1943, she married Orel H. Ward in Jackson.

Mrs. Ward's first teaching position was in Amherst. She retired in 1976, after 30 years of teaching, with the last 19 years at Rockport Elementary School.

She was a longtime member of the Maine State Retired Teachers Association. Following her retirement and with her husband, she volunteered many years at JAARS Center in Waxhaw, N.C., whose mission it is to train pilots and others in support of Bible translation worldwide.

She attended the West Rockport Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ward was predeceased by her husband in 2001; and her sister, Madeline C. Stevens Dodge, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, with whom she has resided, Susan F. Ward of West Rockport.

A graveside service at Rockville Cemetery will be announced in the spring of 2015.
