NOBLEBORO — Gertrude Pratt passed away peacefully at her home in Waldoboro on July 4, 2014. She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Waldoboro, to the late Cecil and Flora Orff Newbert.

Mrs. Pratt attended and graduated from Waldoboro High School, and she also attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. She completed her teaching certificate at home. Mrs. Pratt took in foster children for many years prior to becoming a first-grade school teacher at Friendship Street School.

She loved to sing and play the piano and violin. She also had a love for gardening, canning and cooking at home. Mrs. Pratt volunteered for many years at The Fieldcrest Nursing Home in Waldoboro. She received a Presidential Certificate for her devotion to volunteer work.

She was a member of The Nazarene Church in North Waldoboro, where she served as treasurer, was a former adult Sunday school teacher and past missionary president.

Mrs. Pratt was predeceased in death by her parents; her husband, the Rev. Emery Pratt; her sister, Bernice Newhall; three brothers, Merton, Leonard and Bernard Newbert; her granddaughter, Joanna Burke; her niece, Lucille Lash; her step-daughter, Ann Latford; and her step-grandson, Emery Richardson.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Ann Burke of Mansfield, Mass., and Sandra Underhill of New Market, Tenn.; her foster sisters, Lucille Raven and Dot Christ; her grandson, Mark Weston Burke of Providence, R.I.; her step-daughters, Alice Deery, Gloria Richardson and Annie Swazey, all of Danielson, Conn.; her step-grandsons, Danny and David Richardson and Joey Deery, all of Putnam, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, July 8 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro, with the Rev. Robert Bellows, pastor of Orff's Corner Community Church, officiating.
