He later moved to the southwestern United States, where he went on to become a senior electronics engineer for a large corporation. Throughout his career in the electronics field, he worked with General Electric Process Controls, Honeywell Process Controls, both in Phoenix, Ariz., and Lockheed Government Contracts of Nashua, N.H. In association with his work he wrote numerous manuals, departmental policies, engineering specifications, operating instructions, test manuals and new product descriptions. Retiring in 1983 as an electronics manager and a product quality engineer, he settled in Florida.

In retirement he wrote several short stories for family and friends. Also in 2008, he published The Lobstermen of Penobscot Bay.

A 32 Degree Mason, he was a longtime member of Aurora Lodge No. 50, in Rockland.

Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Rosalie Harvey Lufkin; and his brother, Ronald Lufkin Sr. He is survived by his very dear friend and longtime companion, Dianne Groves of Scarborough; his son, Leslie Lufkin of Whitefield; his sister, Barbara Ellis of Rockland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
