ROCKLAND — Gary A. Johnson, 55, died peacefully with his family at his side at his home Nov. 25, 2012.

Born in Plainville, Conn., June 30, 1957, he was the son of James and Phyllis Shaw Johnson.

Before becoming disabled, Gary worked on several local fishing boats as well as owning his own auto body repair shop.

He loved building and racing cars, as well as fishing and camping trips with his family.

His wife, Bethany, said he was a wonderful man with a heart of gold who was a kind loving father. He took great joy in teaching his daughter everything he knew about fishing or anything else she wanted to learn. He also taught her to drive the boat on one of their many camping trips to Moosehead.

Predeceased by his father; Gary is survived by his mother, Phyllis Johnson of Thomaston; his wife, Bethany Johnson; and his daughter, Jazzmin Johnson, both of Rockland; his brother, James Johnson Jr. and his wife, Vickie, of South Thomaston; his sister, Bonnie Johnson of Bremen; his nephews, Jimmy and Danny Johnson, and Justin and Matthew Kinney; and great-nieces and nephews, Amanda Johnson, Madison Kinney, Kayla Betts, Zachary Kinney, and McKenna Stinson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at Port Clyde Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Randall Thissell officiating.
