Friday night storm: Camden to strictly enforce overnight parking ban

Fri, 01/30/2015 - 4:45pm

CAMDEN — With another 8-11 inches of snow due to blanket the Midcoast Friday night into Saturday morning, Camden has issued an overnight parking ban to assist town plow trucks to do the work needed to clear the street in time for what will be a busy Saturday downtown for Winterfest.

Following is a letter from Camden Police Chief Randy Gagne:

On behalf of Camden Public Safety & Camden Public Works departments we would like to thank everyone for your cooperation during the snow event of earlier this week. Your cooperation with staying off the roads and using the public parking lots assisted greatly in making this a relatively event free storm.

With another significant snow fall forecast for Friday and Saturday, the Camden Police Department wants to remind motorists, the overnight parking ban on Camden streets is in effect between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

This will be strictly enforced during this snow event. If you need all night parking you can use the public safety lot or the Knox Mill upper lot located on Washington Street. These lots are being prepared today to accommodate additional parking. Any vehicle parked in violation is subject to ticket and tow if interfering with snow removal. The Mechanic Street parking lot near the Bagel Café will be closed for parking after 8 p.m. this evening so crews can store snow in this area.

Anyone working in the downtown area during the storm is encouraged to use the public safety and Knox Mill lots to allow the highway department access to remove snow and cleanup. If the storm warrants, we may need to issue a parking ban during the evening hours on Saturday Jan. 31. An announcement will be made Saturday morning should we need to implement the earlier parking ban.

As always we thank you for your cooperation during this weather event. With your help we will be able to keep Camden's streets plowed and safe for everyone. We encourage you to stay off the roads unless travel is necessary.
