Free chainsaw workshop in Cushing

Thu, 09/15/2016 - 11:00am

The public is invited to participate in a free chainsaw skills workshop geared for both novices and more experienced loggers. The workshop, which will take place September 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Langlais Sculpture Preserve on River Road in Cushing, will be led by Ted Wright, who oversees the Northeast Master Logger Certification Program.

After a safety and maintenance video, Ted will demonstrate cutting techniques. Protective gear and chainsaws will be available for those wishing to partake in the demonstration. Participants can bring their own chainsaws. In addition, Ted will provide a tree felling demonstration. Please wear long sleeves, long pants and closed-toe (preferably steel-toe) shoes.

Refreshments will be available in the morning. Bring a bagged lunch, or purchase at neighboring store. This workshop is co-sponsored by the Midcoast Chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine and the Georges River Land Trust.
