SWANVILLE — Frederick James Moylen II, of Swanville, passed away Sept. 20, 2015, at Eastern Maine Medical Center after a long illness.

In accordance with Fred's last wishes, a private gathering will take place at a later date to celebrate his life at his farm.

Fred was born in Medford, Mass., on Oct. 11, 1938, to Frederick J. Moylen and Mary E. Donaghue.

He grew up in Hansen, Mass., and at age 14 Fred joined the 4-H Club, where he developed his interest and skills in animal husbandry. He graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, Mass. After graduating he joined the Marine Reserves and later worked at Tedeschi and Supreme grocery stores. He then moved to South Yarmouth, Mass., and worked as a carpenter and started a house painting business.

In 1979 he purchased the farm in Swanville, where he pursued his dream of breeding sheep. Fred was very successful in this endeavor, winning many state and national prize ribbons and trophies. He later became a truck farmer and developed a following at a local farmer's market in Belfast.

Fred felt a strong sense of community. Fred served on the Swanville Planning Board and had held that position for many years.

Fred is survived by his daughter, Melanie Moylen of Weymouth, Mass.; his son, Fred Moylen III of Orlando, Fla.; and his brother, Richard Moylen of Roseville, Calif.; as well as his "adoptive" family, Irene Johnson of Swanville, Jessica Johnson of Appleton and Christopher Johnson of Lincolnville.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Frederick J. Moylen; his mother, Mary E. Moylen; his brother, Robert W. Moylen; and his sisters, Donna M. Stanio and Nacy A. DellaCroce; as well as his daughter, Karen L. Moylen-Marashio

Fred will be remembered for his love and caring for his animals, his lighthearted sense of humor, and devotion to his beloved Boston Red Sox and Patriots. In spite of his infirmities Fred just loved life — all of it.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Waldo County General Hospital and Eastern Maine Medical Center for their care and helpful and respectful concern during his stay.
