SOUTH THOMASTON — Fred Lewis Strout, 82, died Sept. 29, 2014, at his home, after an extended period of declining health.

Born in Rockland on Feb. 23, 1932, he was the son of Hollis and Margaret Cheyne Strout. Educated in local schools, he was a 1952 graduate of Rockland High School.

A veteran of the Korean War, Fred served from 1952 to 1954 with the United States Army.

For more than 30 years he worked at the U.S. Post Office branch in Rockland.

Fred was an avid HO gauge model railroader. He loved his dogs, Bonzo, Bruno and Spunky. For many years Fred enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie he experienced through his morning coffee group at MacDonald's in Rockland.

Fred was predeceased by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gloria and George Dyer; his sisters and their spouses, Maxine and Ted Andrus, and Helen and Russell Connors.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda of South Thomaston; two step-sons, James Godfrey of Owls Head and Charles Godfrey and his girlfriend, Melissa Knight, of South Thomaston; his much loved granddaughter, Alexandria Godfrey, and her mother, Susan, of Owls Head; a brother-in-law, Lewis Dyer of Owls Head; his nieces and nephews, Lori Dyer Mank, her husband, Chris, and their son, Michael, of Washington, David and Roberta Andrus, and Donald and Sarah Andrus, all of Rockport, Bruce and Theresa Connors and family of Standish, and Russell and Georgann Connors and family of Belton, Mo.; as well as his life-long friends, Gary and Ann Seavey of Cushing and Christie and Joan Alex of Rockland.

No service will be held. Private interment will be in Ocean View Cemetery in South Thomaston.
