SOUTH BRISTOL — Franklin D. Cass, beloved husband of Arlene E. Bligh Cass, died peacefully at his home in the 82nd year of a full and well lived life.

Born in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of Leo P. and Elsie Berglund Cass. Educated in local schools, he was a 1951 graduate of South Huntington High School and a 1958 graduate of Hofstra University on Long Island, N.Y. Frank was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Frank met the great love of his life, Arlene, in their hometown of Huntington, where they were married July 4, 1959. Frank and Arlene traveled life's journey together for 55 years. They raised their family in Eaton's Neck, N.Y., on the shores of Long Island Sound. After many wonderful family vacations, they fulfilled their dream of moving to Maine in 1995, building a cottage on Hobbs Pond, in Hope. They enjoyed many memorable summers on the pond with their children and grandchildren. In 2006 they moved to a year-round home in Walpole.

Frank was employed by South Huntington Schools for 29 years as the purchasing agent. He took pride in making the most of the resources available to educate the students of his hometown. For more than 25 years he was an active member of the Eaton's Neck Fire Department, and served 17 years as chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cass is survived by two sons and their wives, retired U.S. Army Col. Scott F. Cass and Sarah of Cumberland Foreside, and James E. and Kolleen Cass of Newcastle; three daughters and their husbands, Cheryl L. and Michael Marinaro of Lancaster, Pa., Nancy E. and Timothy Wine of Northport, N.Y., and Kristen C. and Karl Andersen of Rockport; one sister, Dorothy Hartson of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; as well as nieces and nephews.

Frank's legacy of service lives on in his children and grandchildren. He was very proud to have raised an army officer, three teachers and a nurse, all dedicated to the service of others.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Sunday, Jan. 4 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home at 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
