WARREN - Frank D. Barrett, 91, passed into Glory on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home.

Born in Mars Hill, July 29, 1926, he was the son of Dennison and Edna Barrett who lived in Bridgewater at that time.  The Barrett family moved to Warren in 1939 when Frank was 12 years old.  He entered the Seventh Grade at Warren Academy, later graduating from Waldoboro High School in 1944.

Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp and served in Germany during World War II.  He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in January 1947.

He worked in several Warren saw mills. He was retired from Lockheed Martin’s Thomaston Cement Plant as a Foreman in 1984, and later worked as a guard at the Bolduc Correctional Facility for ten years.

A licensed pilot, for many years, Frank enjoyed the scenery from above while piloting his Piper Cub airplane.  He was known for his great laugh and chuckle, and often had a twinkle in his eye.  His classical education combined with a tremendous memory, had him walking around in the middle of the day quoting poetry or old songs for every mundane occurrence.  A Master Carpenter, he built his own home, and even shingled one side of his barn at age 80!  Always a handy man, he was a methodical, precise, problem-solving and jovial Mr. fix-it.

He was a member of St. George Lodge No. 0016, and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Warren.

Besides his wife of 34 years, Yvonne, of Warren, Frank is survived by five daughters: Sally-Anne Barrett, of Warren, Helen Ada Barrett, of Islesboro, Edna Elizabeth and her husband, Patrick Mahan, of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jayne Lisa Barrett, of Lincolnville, and Jean Marie Barrett, of Thomaston; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and his former wife and mother of their children, Virginia Crabtree, of Hope; his stepchildren, Lori and Wayne Johnson, of Bradenton, Florida, Philip and Lorna Street, of Washington, Julie and Jonathan Murphy of Friendship, Dean and Ruth-Anne Street, of Gorham, Rebecca and Wayne Hyler, of Warren, Benjamin Street and his friend, Yuri Namkung, of Charlemont, Massachusetts, Amy and Steven Philbrook, of Islesford, Ruth and John Welch, of Bar Harbor, Nathan and Yen Street, of Morrill, Georgia, Sarah and Luca Avellini, of Cushing,  and Niki and Steven Silva, of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Vella Smith, brother Ed Barrett and his wife Nancy all of Warren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering with military honors will be held with his family and close friends at 2 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Counce Cemetery in Warren.
