Five Town overpowers Oceanside in playoff matchup

Five Town moves on to the championship games with the win

ROCKPORT – The District 2 Little League playoffs continued Thursday night for the 11-12 softball teams from Five Town Little League and Oceanside Little League.

Five Town scored four runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead and went on to hand Oceanside a 14-9 loss.

With the win Five Town is in the championship game scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, at 5:30 p.m. at the Marge Jones Recreational Complex. Oceanside will now play Lincoln County to see who Five Towns’ opponent will be.

Oceanside and Lincoln County opened the tournament Monday, June 29 with Oceanside taking a 16-9 win which they will be trying to duplicate Monday, July 6 when they meet up again in an elimination game. The loser is done and the winner will play for the right to go to the state tournament.

Thursday night Five Town bats were alive as they took advantage of 10 hits and seven walks to to capture the win. Five Town scored one run in the first inning, four in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and fifth and four in the sixth. Oceanside plated one in the second, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Olivia Brown and Dani Cayouette took the circle for Five Town allowing five hits, but walked 12, wile striking out three.

Jessica Watkinson pitched for Oceanside allowing the 10 hits and seven walks while striking out three.

Offensively for Five Town, Cayouette (single, 4 runs), Logan Carney (2 singles, double, 2 runs), Alexandra Southworth (single, run), Grace O’Connell (2 singles, 2 runs), Caroline Contento (run), Haileigh Luce (single), Miranda Dunton (single-run) and Brown (single, 2 runs).

For Oceanside, Watkinson (double), Grace Woodman (single, run), Emily Wotton (3 singles, 2 runs), Chloe Simmons (single, 2 runs) and Katherine Freeman, Audrey Leavitt, J. Beal, and Nina Waldron (run each).
