UNION — In what ended up being a bye week from the playoffs, both the Five Town junior varsity and varsity youth football teams, as well as the Medomak junior varsity and varsity youth football teams decided to spend the week playing against one another.

All four squads battled head-to-head, junior varsity versus junior varsity and varsity versus varsity, on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Union Elementary School fields.

The Five Town youth football team is not directly affiliated with the Camden-Rockport middle school football team.

In the junior varsity contest, Five Town fell to Medomak 26-6, while the Five Town varsity squad squeaked past Medomak 14-13.

In the varsity contest, the young ‘Jammers stopped a two-point conversion attempt by Medomak with over two minutes remaining and then ran out the clock, according to Carl Chadwick, the Five Town Youth Football League President.

“Touchdown runs by Caleb Sabanty and Landen Stearns carried the [varsity] ‘Jammers, along with its stout defense,” said Chadwick. “Both games involved great competition and sportsmanship.”

The semifinals will be played Saturday, Oct. 25. Both Five Town squads will host Rockland Black at the Camden Snow Bowl, with the junior varsity contest at 10 a.m. followed immediately by the varsity game.

The winners of the Oct. 25 contests will battle the winner of the Medomak versus Boothbay contests, to be played on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Union Elementary School.
