First cruise ship of the season to anchor in Rockland Harbor April 19

Wed, 04/18/2018 - 7:30pm

According to the latest information from the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, M/V Fram will now arrive Thursday, April 19, according to the nonprofit Rockland Main Street.

Passengers are expected to disembark the first tender at Middle Pier by 8 a.m. The ship was originally expected to arrive April 18.

Fram's visit to the Port of Rockland is the first cruise ship of the 2018 season in the entire state of Maine. This is also the maiden visit by Fram.

Rockland Historical Society will be doing a walking tour starting at 10 a.m. finishing on Main Street and any shore excursions will be done by 1:30 p.m. so there is plenty of time for passengers to walk around and explore. They are scheduled to depart by early evening.

Representatives from the chamber and Rockland Main Street, Inc., will be greeting the passengers upon arrival. Volunteers from the chamber will be at Middle Pier and offering walking maps and local information about Rockland to the passengers as they disembark.

The chamber will be on the pier again early afternoon to direct people downtown and to the Harbor Trail as well as discussing other options. The Visitor Center is open all day as it is every week day.

Fram carries 150 European and American passengers and the ship is an expedition ship with a younger adult clientele who are on a 13-day cruise. MS Fram is owned and operated by Hurtigruten Cruise Line.
