Family offers $10,000 reward in missing Biddeford man’s case

    AUGUSTA — The family of Angel Torres has increased the reward for information on his disappearance, a missing person case that has been unsolved since May 1999.

    On the first anniversary of Torres’ disappearance, the family offered a $5,000 reward. Today, that reward stands at $10,000, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland in a news release.

    Torres was last heard from by his parents on May 19, 1999, when he reportedly called to wish them a happy wedding anniversary, according to the Metro West Daily News in Framingham, Mass. Torres, 21, was a junior in business administration at Framingham State College. Also according to Metro West Daily News, Torres two days later called his girlfriend in Barre, Vt., where she was expecting him to come and start a new job on May 24.

    Metro West Daily News reports that Torres was “possibly headed to North Conway, N.H.,” and was last seen in downtown Biddeford around 2 a.m. They described his as wearing a gold chain with a large gold crucifix-type pendant.

    McCausland said that the family announced the reward increase April 1, which would have been Torres' 38th birthday.

    State Police have investigated the disappearance as a missing person case with suspected foul play. Anyone with new information is asked to call State Police in Gray at 1-800-228-0857.
