BELFAST — There is something for everyone as Belfast hosts the first annual Peace Festival this Friday and Saturday, September 5 and 6 on Miller and Court Streets.

The festival seeks to encourage attendees to have fun and learn tools for developing peace within themselves, their families and the larger community.

Take part in workshops on non-violent communication and meditation — and on the same day enjoy great music from local favorites including Johnny Whitcomb and a Pete Seeger Tribute by Dave Johnson and friends.

This free, family-friendly event will include activities for all ages beginning Friday with a street dance broadcast live by WERU on the lawn of the First Church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., playing music from the 1960s and beyond.

Dance and enjoy refreshments, or bring your own picnic.

Saturday starts with a meditation and labyrinth, pancake breakfast, and sign making, followed by a Peace Walk through town. A BBQ lunch will be available at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Miller Street.

The afternoon is full of local music, a panel discussion with Veterans for Peace, drumming, and much more. A family/children's tent will offer crafts and other activity all afternoon. Evening brings a spaghetti supper at the First Baptist Church, followed by a concert featuring Lynn Deeves of Portland from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the UU Church.

This event is open to the public, rain or shine; admission is free; food is available for purchase along with t-shirts. All are welcome!
