The fall colors they are a popping around the Midcoast

According to Maine's Official Fall Foliage website, all but coastal parts of Down East are at peak color, but there is still plenty of color to see and not a lot of leaf drop yet.

The 2016 fall foliage report from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry reports peak conditions throughout Maine this upcoming weekend.

"Those leaf peepers who prefer a less hectic weekend for a fall foliage drive, now that the busy Columbus Day weekend has passed, will find that we're still awash with color as most areas are still at peak or slightly beyond peak conditions. There is nowhere in the state of Maine that is untouched by the breathtaking colors of fall," said Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson. "Northern Maine still has plenty of color and low leaf drop."

One doesn't need to drive far to see trees and shrubs ablaze in bright yellow, red and orange, as well all variations of gold and tan, with some silver mixed in too.

For locals, the drive to work each day is a soothing one, especially when one takes a moment to pull over, step outside the car, look around and take a deep breath.

Enjoy it while you can... Halloween is a couple of weeks away, followed by Thanksgiving a month later and then the first day of winter, on Dec. 21.
