SOUTH THOMASTON — Esther Ranquist, 83, passed away April 27, 2016, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.

Born in Warren on Aug. 26, 1932, she was the daughter of Earl and Dorothy Jones Smith. She attended Warren schools.

Esther was a waitress for many years at Dave's Restaurant, where she made many friends. She will be remembered for a generous heart, quick wit and great sense of humor.

Predeceased by her husband, Vernon “Bub” Ranquist; Esther is survived by her four children, Lynda Rackliff and her husband, Douglas, of Spruce Head, Sherry Payson of Hope, and Michael Ranquist and Gregory Ranquist, both of South Thomaston; her grandchildren, Brett Rackliff of South Thomaston, Andrea Hall of Owls Head, Valerie Hilchey and her husband, Garrett, of St. George, Devin Ranquist of South Thomaston, Brittany Payson of Hope, Megan Ranquist of Portland and Lindsey Ranquist of Rockland; her great-grandchildren, Kyle Rolerson and his wife, Katelyn, of Lincolnville, Alyssa Rolerson of Cushing, Parker and Spencer Hilchey of St. George, Sydney Hall of Owls Head and Casey Hall of Boston; and two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Zoey of Lincolnville.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A graveside committal service will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at Village Cemetery in South Thomaston.
