CAMDEN — Elinor A. Emery, 80, passed away Dec. 23, 2014, surrounded by her family and her cat, Kendra. Born June 26, 1934, she was the daughter of Edward and Sue Ausplund of Rockport.

A Rockport High School graduate, Elinor was known for her witty personality and was a talented member of the basketball team. On March 30, 1960, she married Desmond Emery

During her early years, Elinor was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star and worked as a telephone operator in Rockland. Later, she was employed by GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro, where she earned a nickname referring to her short stature.

In her retirement years, Eleanor enjoyed baking wonderful cakes, pies, muffins and cookies and would share them with family and friends. In the springtime, she planted gladioli bulbs and gave away the beautiful flowers after they bloomed. Her life was colored in sharing dishcloths, hand knit mittens, and helping in any way she could, especially donating much needed supplies at the animal shelter.

Her best friend remembered Elinor this way, "She was just like her mother, Susie, in that she loved helping people and giving all she could."

Elinor will be missed by her husband of 54 years, Desmond Emery of Camden; her daughter, Tracy Emery and her husband, Joel Dempsey, of Cushing; her grandson, Tristo Emery and his wife, Chanda, of Camden; three grandchildren, Kasey, Reygan and Blake; her niece, Jean Ramsdell; her nephews, Steve, Mark, David and Peter Ausplund; and her beloved feline companion, Kendra. Happy trails Mom!

A graveside service will be held Monday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at Seaview Cemetery on Russell Avenue in Rockport, with the Rev. Ralph Miller officiating.

If desired, memorial gifts may be made to P.A.W.S., P.O. Box 707, Rockport, ME 04856; Knox County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841; or Make-A-Wish, 477 Congress St., Suite M-1, Portland, ME 04101.
