BELFAST - Elaine Madeline Annas Bailey passed quietly on Nov. 13, 2016, in St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. She was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Presque Isle, daughter of Philip A. Annas and Elva May Duncan Annas.

She graduated from Crosby High School in 1947 while her father was the superintendent of the district. She was a graduate of Bates College (June of 1951).

On Dec. 10, 1951, she married Everard Allen Bailey Jr., the son of Everard Sr. and Blanch White Bailey of Belfast. Together they raised four children.

She was a teacher and an avid reader. She hunted and she loved the woods of Maine. She was a longtime member of the Sportsmen's Alliance and a life member of the NRA. She taught Spanish at Bucksport High School, where she coached the cheerleading squads. Her family was always of first importance to her and she kept up correspondence with numerous relations from California to Aroostook.

She is survived by her children, Fred and Karen Bailey of Bangor, Robert O. and Faith Bailey of Bangor, and Barbara Bailey of New Hampshire; and a granddaughter, Erika L. Bailey also of Bangor.

Only a small, private memorial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives wishing to remember her are encouraged to make donations to their local soup kitchens or other institutions that feed people in need.

Arrangements are under the care of Riposta Funeral Home.
