SPRUCE HEAD — Edward “Ted” Norris, 58, died peacefully Oct. 25, 2014, surrounded by his family, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born Aug. 20, 1956, he was the son of Elizabeth Norris. Although born in Boston, Mass., Ted spent his childhood summers at his grandfather's home on Linekin Bay in East Boothbay. As a young man he made East Boothbay his home and worked as an artist, ocean diver and restauranteur.

Ted loved the water, and his career continued as a sailing instructor in Florida. Later he followed his passion of being on the ocean to the Bahamas, where he became a charter boat captain. Many years ago he returned to Maine and worked as a general contractor.

On July 28, 2001, Ted married his best friend, Nancy, in East Boothbay. Together they made their home in Spruce Head.

Ted loved the simple life, spending time with family and friends was one of his favorite pastimes. He took great solace in being on the water, especially the Maine coast, and always found beauty in nature. He enjoyed a good hike, and could often be found completing a new piece of art. Whether it was a painting, beautifully written prose or woodworking, Ted loved crafts of all kinds. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of all who loved him.

Predeceased by his mother and a brother; Ted is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Spruce Head; his sons, Clayton Norris of Portland and Matthew Norris of Georgetown; a nephew who was like a son, Charles Ellingwood of Falmouth; two stepdaughters, Kimberley Blair of South Thomaston and Randi Lamkins of Rockland; as well as seven grandchildren, Miles, Elizabeth, Noah, Marina, Cadence, Robert and Berlin.

A celebration of Ted's life will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
