Dr. Margaret A. Malmberg, obituary

BELFAST — Dr. Margaret A. (Renton) Malmberg ,72, a resident of Belfast, passed away on April 7, 2016, in Portland under the loving and compassionate care of Waldo General County Hospital in Belfast and the Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born Feb. 14, 1944, to Robert and Eleanor (Curtis) Renton in Cleveland, Ohio.

Margaret attended Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She was trained as an experimental psychologist and worked, for over 30 years, as a higher education administrator, educator and consultant. She was an active member of the Belfast Rotary, the education chair for the Board of Directors of the Camden Conference in Camden and was committed to a multitude of social justice causes. Margaret was also the treasurer of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Belfast, as well as an active member of its choir.

Margaret enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, long bike rides, caring for and riding horses, and spending countless hours working on volunteer initiatives for the ultimate betterment of all.

Margaret is preceded in death by her two loving husbands, Dr. Donald Hastings and Dr. Steven R. Malmberg; as well as her parents, Robert and Eleanor Renton; her brother, Stephen Renton; and her sisters, Donna and Kathleen Renton. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Claudia Lee of Paw Paw, Mich.; her niece, Jennifer (Mike) Nash of Houston, Texas; and her nephew, Patrick Lee of Paw Paw, Mich. She is also survived by her two foster sons, Russell (Lynn) Allen of Appleton, Wis., and Ed (Lori) Miller of Neebish Island, Mich.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 16, tentatively set for 11 a.m. at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Belfast.

Memorials on her behalf, in lieu of flowers, can be given to St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, Waldo General County Hospital and the Camden Conference.
