LINCOLNVILLE — Dorothy (Mac Donald) Munroe, 96, died April 5, 2017, at the Sussman House in Rockport. She was born June 22, 1926, in Camden, the daughter of Almond and Florence Brickett Mac Donald.

Dot was a proud alumnus of Camden High School, Class of 1939. She was always willing to share her memories of the Camden she remembered from the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s.

She lived her life in Camden and Lincolnville, with the exception of a short time in Florida and California. She was the widow of William R. Munroe Sr.

She is survived by her sisters, Eleanor Mac Donald, and Shirley Hamlin and her husband, Greg; her grandson, James Munroe and wife, Brenda; her great-granddaughter, Kayla and her daughter, Kengie; her niece, Ellen Porter and her husband, Brad, Paul Mac Donald and his wife Betsy, her niece, Elaine Mahar and her husband Ken; her nephew, Edward Mac Donald and his companion, Carol Sias; and her nephews, Robert and David Mac Donald.

During the war years she worked at the Camden Shipyard. She worked first in one of the Quonset huts pricing invoices, then was transferred to the personnel department where she worked on barge charts telling what stage of work the barges were in. She also helped on the payroll. She was the last one to leave the personnel department after the war and was called back to do over the files.

After the war Richard Lyman, president of the shipyard during the war, Clinton Lunt, vice president, and Blair Lamont formed three companies; Maine Willey Sales, Maine Appliance and Northeast Building, where she was their bookkeeper. Their office was on Main Street in Camden, which later became the Tweed Shop. When these companies closed, she went to work for Clinton Lunt and Henry Bickford. They bought a fuel company and she became the bookkeeper. Their office was on the wharf of the Camden Shipyard. She stayed with them until she went to California.

Dot married William Munroe on June 9, 1959, and moved to Lincolnville. Together they owned a farm and W. R. Munroe Lumber Company. On their retirement they sold the lumber business to Viking Lumber. During their business years, they won many trips to Europe. They traveled to Paris, Rome, Venice, Morocco, Switzerland, Hawaii and Puerto Rico with their many lumber friends.

Dot will be remembered at the Elks, where she always had lunch on Tuesdays with her special friends Beverly Cummings, Barbara Dyer and Elaine Jones.

She was predeceased by husband, William Munroe Sr.; her stepson, William Munroe Jr., Timothy Munroe and James Munroe; and her brother, Francis Mac Donald and his wife, Polly Mac Donald.

Dot was a devoted sister, proud grandmother, supportive aunt and loyal friend. She will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Dot's life may be held at a later date this summer.
