ROCKLAND — Dorothy Vivian “Dotty” Mello, 87, of Rockland, passed away peacefully April 14, 2016, at home, after a brief illness.

Born in New York City on June 12, 1928, she was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Edward.

Dotty, a previous resident of Long Island, returned to her beloved Maine, where she spent many happy summers with her grandmother more than 30 years ago.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia Barnes Del Valle of New York; her niece, Donna Barnes of New Jersey; and four children and their spouses, Edward Mello Jr. and his wife, Tracy, Linda Mello Teta and her husband, Joseph, Denise Mello Fehr and her husband, William Jr., and Bruce Mello and his wife, Donna. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a brief service of remembrance held at 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
