SPRUCE HEAD – Doris Smith Fargo, 83, died peacefully, Thursday, November 27, 2014 from complications following a severe stroke.

Born March 31, 1931, in Norristown, Pa., she was the daughter of Fred and Pauline Gerhart Smith.

Doris graduated from Souderton Area High School and was employed at the Harleysville Insurance Company. There she met her future husband, Earl. The two were married and have enjoyed 59 wonderful years together.

Doris was always energetic and loved working with her hands. Her husband said there was not a craft that she declined to try. From stenciling to flower arranging, and sewing, knitting and basket making. Cooking, cookbooks and recipes were a huge part of Doris' fun time activities. Her bookcases contained the efforts of Ina Garten, Sara Moulton, Martha Stewart and many more. Her favorite TV channels were Create and The Food Network.

Friends will remember her vivacious personality, quick wit and loving smile.

She was a long-time member of the Spruce Head Old Goats Coffee Club, which meets every Thursday for gossip and refreshments.

Doris attended Nativity Lutheran Church on Old County Road in Rockport.

She is survived by her loving husband, Earl; her daughters, Jill Finnegan and her husband, Chris, of Perkasie, Pa., an Heidi Fargo of Bonita Springs, Fla.; her grandchildren, Geoffrey Finnegan of Hilliard, Ohio, and Emily Finnegan of Perkasie, Pa.; and a sister, Jean Kulp of Hatfield, Pa.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church, 179 Old County Road in Rockport. The Rev. Jerry LiaBraaten will officiate. Private interment will take place at a later date.
