STOCKTON SPRINGS - Donald Walter DeMott, 79, of Stockton Springs, died Nov. 15, 2016, in Bangor, following a brief illness.

Don, the son of Walter and Eleanor DeMott, who preceded him in death, was born Nov. 10, 1937, in Union, N.J. Don graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in accounting and from New York University with a degree in economics. He had worked for Arthur Anderson in New York City for many years and finished his career at the MSPCA in Boston. After retiring to Stockton Springs, he served as the charter president of the Village of Stockton Harbor.

Don is survived by his wife of 28 years, Michele Kirkman DeMott; and his sister, Elaine Hoerning of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. He is also survived by his children, Brian Demott of New Hampshire, Kirsten Seavey of Nashua, N.H., Kent Demott, Matchett Demott, Megg Demott of Manchester, N.H., Tobey Yeates of Chicago, Ill., and Heather Escobar of Medford, Ore. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, who called him GagaDon.

In his retirement, he bought a sailboat, Miss Cricket, and had a fantastic time sailing on Penobscot Bay. He enjoyed golf, gardening, hiking, the New England Patriots, politics and he loved to read history books. He had traveled to all 50 states and one of his last trips was on the Santa Fe Trail, after reading a diary on the area.

A celebration of Don's life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m., sundown, at the Stockton Springs Yacht Club.
