TENANTS HARBOR — Domenic J. Berte, 73, died Sept. 9, 2014, at his home following an extended period of declining health. Unwilling to give in to a terminal diagnosis, Domenic bowled six strings with his brother the morning he died.

Born in Somerville, Mass., on Sept. 18, 1940, he was the son of Felomeno J. and Rita J. Blundell Berte. Baptized at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Somerville, Domenic attended St. Josephs Parochial schools and Somerville public schools.

For 12 years, Domenic worked as a surveyor on construction of Massachusetts Route 2. He later worked 10 years with an industrial cleaning company and the next 10 years as a night sanitary engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His next employment was with Harvard College in the maintenance department. More recently, before moving to Maine in 2006, he worked at Carrs Picture Frames in Somerville.

A longtime avid bowler, he enjoyed league bowling at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport.

In addition to his parents, Domenic was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine A. Banda in 1984 and Barbara Kathrein in 2014. He is survived by a brother, William “Joe” Berte and his wife, Laura Lynn; and a sister, Ann M. Berte, all of Tenants Harbor, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit Monday, Sept. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A prayer vigil will be held at 5:30 p.m. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 920 Adams St. in Dorchester, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bernards Soup Kitchen, 7 Union St., Camden, ME 04843.
