CUSHING — David B. “Dexter” Glidden III, 27, died unexpectedly on April 15, 2017, at his home.

Born in Rockport on March 10, 1990, he was the son of David B. II and Kelly M. Elwell Glidden. During childhood, Dexter lived in Tenants Harbor and Cushing, attending St. George School. He was a 2008 graduate of Georges Valley High School in Thomaston.

Dexter had a lifelong love for sports. Whether it was taking to the field during his school years or casting a line in his favorite fishing spot, he thoroughly loved to be outside and in touch with the outdoors. During school, Dexter looked forward to his most loved sport, baseball, which he played all through his school years.

As a young boy, it didn't take long for Dexter's love of fishing to begin. His mother, who crafted his first fishing pole for him using a paper clip as a hook, introduced Dexter to fishing. He would spend hours with that new pole jigging for sunfish. Dexter loved ice fishing, boating and to be at his grandparents' camp on Seven Tree Pond. When summer arrived, he could be found at the pond's edge catching the biggest bullfrog as a small boy, and pulling in the trophy fish as a young adult. Dexter loved his family immensely and held a special bond with his long-term fishing companion and best friend, his father.

Dexter's love of the water kept him close to it through out his work career. He spent time working on commercial offshore vessels and for the past several years aboard local lobster boats. Dexter was looking forward to the upcoming fishing season. He enjoyed working with Pete Rasmussen as his stern-man upon the vessel, Cristen Lee.

Dexter's parents described him as a loving son, father and brother who would literally give the “shirt off his back,” to anyone in need. He was looking forward to the birth of his second daughter in June. Dexter touched the lives of many people in a special way.

Dexter was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Rebecca Robbins Elwell. He is survived by his father, David B. Glidden II of Cushing; his mother, Kelly M. Del Frate of Tenants Harbor; his daughter, Emma Mae Glidden of Waldoboro; his son, Conner Penn; and his girlfriend, Trittany Penn, both of Rockland; his paternal grandparents, David B. and Sharon Young Glidden of Cushing; his maternal grandfather, Darrel Elwell; his brother, Mitchell Del Frate; his sister, Rachel Del Frate; and his stepfather, Robert Del Frate, all of Tenants Harbor; his aunts and uncles, Daphne and Walter Reynolds, Darrel Jr. and Donna Elwell, Rochelle Glidden and Jim Ecklund, Melissa and Jim Corbett, and Dusty and Becky Glidden; as well as his many cousins.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. at Pleasant View Cemetery on Davis Point Road in Cushing. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Broad Cove Church in Cushing immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mid-Coast Recovery Coalition, 91 Camden Street, Suite 203, Rockland, ME 04841.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
