CAMDEN — David Jay Conary, 55, died June 15, 2015, in Camden. Born in New London, Conn., on May 13, 1960, he was the son of Lyndon and Marilyn (Cole) Conary. In 1964, the family moved to Maine, where David began his journey as a lifelong outdoor enthusiast and mariner.

For many years, he went lobster fishing out of Rockport in his 36-foot Jonesport boat, the Sharon Marie. In 1985, he began offshore fishing on the Rebecca B., the Cicely B. or the Jessica B. out of Hyannisport, Mass., where they fished the Georges Bank off Massachusetts and the Grand Banks off Newfoundland for weeks at a time.

David was known as a kind, helpful man, who enjoyed people, a good conversation and a well-placed joke. He was intelligent and considerate and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and being free.

Known for his heart, his wit and his humor, David had the ability to find a solution after others had given up and moved on. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him. Rest in peace David, you are truly free.

Predeceased by his father, Lyndon Conary; and a brother, Mark Conary; he is survived by his mother, Marilyn Conary of Deer Isle; his son, Christopher Johnson of Lincolnville; one brother, Peter Conary; two sisters, Sonya Conary of Brooks and Tasha and her husband, Garrett Brown, of Deer Isle; nieces, nephews and a special life-long friend, Cecil Holden of Brooklin.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St. in Camden. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Brooklin at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Camden Area Food Pantry, P.O. Box 337, Camden, ME 04843.
