DAMARISCOTTA -- There are limited spaces left for youth ages nine to twelve in Wabanaki Ways, July 21 to 25, Music and Nature, Aug. 4 to 15, and Earth Art, Aug. 11 to 15. There is also limited availability in the Teen Institute, a special session for teens from July 28 to Aug. 1, and in Mummichog Girls, a girls only session for ages seven to twelve, Aug. 18 to 22.

Who wouldn’t want to spend the summer days exploring the shores of Great Salt Bay, visit area islands, go bird watching, study horseshoe crabs, explore salt marshes, catch insects and taste wild edibles? Damariscotta River Association’s Camp Mummichog, the summer nature-adventure day camp based at the Great Salt Bay Farm, provides kids with fun, learning and leadership development opportunities like these.

The focus of each camp session is to provide campers with time to explore nature, play games that teach ecological concepts and, in the tradition of many of the great naturalists, journal about their discoveries. All sessions meet daily at the DRA Great Salt Bay Farm on Belvedere Road in Damariscotta with the exception of field trip days when parents transport to a meeting location and pick campers up at that location at the end of the day.

A brochure with all relevant dates, age qualifications and additional details is available from the DRA and on the organization’s website. The Damariscotta River Association, a non-profit community-supported land trust located at 110 Belvedere Road in Damariscotta, has been working since 1973 to preserve and promote the natural, cultural, and historical heritage of the Damariscotta River region. Through the organization’s programs in land protection, stewardship, water quality monitoring, marine conservation, and education, the DRA works to foster healthy, productive waterways and surrounding lands for the benefit of the natural and human communities that rely on them.
