CRUSHING — The Cushing Community School held its annual Harvest Fest on Nov. 17. All first-grade through fourth-grade students performed in a concert to entertain the crowd of over 200 people at the event, according to school officials.

The students sang Getting to Know You, Peace Like a River, Simple Gifts, My Favorite Things, and ABCs of Cushing. They were led by music teacher Anna-Marlies Myers.

After the concert, students and their families feasted on soups and bread made by the students, teachers and volunteers earlier that day. The kindergarten class served up stone soup and yeast rolls. First-graders served pasta fagioli and crusty French bread. Second-graders made chili and corn bread. Third-graders made chicken soup with rice and corn bread muffins. Finally, but not least, the fourth-grade students served pumpkin soup and pumpkin bread.

According to the crowd attending, it was all “delicious.” They were also treated with a variety of desserts made by families and donated to the event.

The Friends and Family of Lura Libby group held a pie raffle at the event as well, with pies donated by area businesses. The pie donations came from Hannaford, Broad Cove Market, Thomaston Grocery, Sweet Sensations, Market Basket, Camden Deli, Beth's Farm Market, Lincoln's Country Store, Fresh off the Farm, Walmart and The Brass Compass. Dorman's Dairy Dream and Bull Run Farm also donated items to help make the event possible. Countless volunteers assisted with set up, clean up, soup and bread making, and more.

“It was a wonderful community event filled with good food, engaging entertainment, and fun with family and friends,” said event organizers in a press release.
