KNOX — Coral Furrow died June 29, 2014, at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast. She was born in Portage Lake on Feb. 21, 1918, the fourth of 16 children born to Laura (Bolstridge) and Rufus A. Gardiner.

She attended the one-room Maple Grove School on Patterson Ridge in Thorndike and graduated from Unity High in 1935. She married Walter S. Furrow in August of 1936 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Coral was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, restoring old furniture, braiding rugs and sewing. She made and sold quilts for about 40 years in almost every state, Canada and a few countries overseas.

Survivors include two daughters, Pansy Porter and Lillyann Greenleaf, both of Belfast; three sons, Royce of Knox, and Cary and Wade of Jackson; her sisters, Mrs. Joe (Beatrice) Bryant of Thorndike and Mrs. Paul (Pearl) MacFarland of Albion; and her brothers, Stuart Gardiner of Swanville, Austin Gardiner and Robert Gardiner of Unity.

She was predeceased by her husband; her sons, Dwight of Knox and Sydney of Skowhegan; five sisters, Verla Gardiner, Lona Gardiner, Winnie Howes of Ashland, Althea Lasselle of Waterville and Elinor Howes of Thorndike; five brothers, George Gardiner, Lohman Gardiner of Freedom, Merton Gardiner of Hallowell, Maurice Gardiner of Unity and Dr. Earl Gardiner of Aggassie, B.C. Canada; many other special family members, too numerous to name.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 2, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at immediately after at Knox Ridge Baptist Church in Knox. Interment will be at Kenney Cemetery in Brooks.
