Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is sponsoring a Maine DEP certification course in Beginning and Advanced Erosion Control Practices: Contractors must take this course to comply with the 2013 statutory requirement to have a certified contractor on all sites within 250 feet of a water body.

Because of the snowstorm on February 9, the course has been rescheduled to Monday, Feb 27 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Knox-Lincoln Cooperative Extension office, 377 Manktown Road in Waldoboro. Cost of the course is $75 and includes morning refreshments, lunch, and the new DEP erosion control practices manual.

If you are an excavation contractor, landscaper, well driller, or other individual involved with soil disturbance within the shoreland zone and have not yet taken a class, sign up now so that you won't have to turn away jobs.

This course is intended only for contractors and personnel who have not yet been certified. To review the certification status of individuals or companies and find training locations throughout the state, please visit www.maine.gov/dep/land/training/ccec.html. Also on the page are links to online training for contractors who need to renew certification or need continuing education credits. In 2017, Knox Lincoln SWCD is sponsoring two additional courses that are eligible for recertification credits: Basic Septic System Installation Certification on March 2 in Union and Gravel Roads Maintenance on July 10 in Boothbay.

Pre-registration is required for all courses. For more information or to register: Contact Knox-Lincoln SWCD office at 596-2040, hildy@knox-lincoln.org or visit www.knox-lincoln.org/contractor-certification.
