Community Conversations about opiate addiction epidemic continue in Thomaston, Warren

Sun, 10/16/2016 - 7:15pm

Ira Mandel and Knox County Recovery Coalition continue a series of Community Conversations in Thomaston, October 25, at 7 p.m., and Warren, October 27, 7 p.m., about building stronger communities in response to the current opiate addiction epidemic.

The goal of of the meeting is to unite neighbors by joining the effort with local involvement. The Thomaston conversation will take place at the American Legion on 37 Starr St. and in Warren at the Warren Community School at 117 Eastern Road.

The effects of the drug addiction epidemic have put families in crisis and have torn apart communities apart in Knox County, said Mandel, in a news release.

“ Needles and syringes are littering our yards, streets and parks in every town,” he said. “Babies are born addicted at alarming rates and 10 percent of teens and young adults are addicted here as throughout New England. Deaths of young people is doubling every year with two to three deaths every month in Knox County. It truly takes a village to heal the effects of drug addiction and to insulate more youth from becoming further statistics.”

Be part of the solution by attending a Community Conversation in the area. Announcements will be made weekly about upcoming meetings in Camden, Rockland, St. George and Union. Visit the KCRC website (knoxrecovery.org) or call 558-3525 for more information.
